Let’s make doilies a thing again! I’m telling you that Grandma had the right idea all along. Seriously, handmade doilies are ridiculously versatile. You can use them as hot pads to protect your table from scorch marks or put them under plant pots to soak up extra water. They also look great hanging up on the wall or as a centerpiece underneath candles or a vase. But wait there’s more! You can also use them as placemats or table settings. You can even use them as rugs if you make them big enough! On top of all these practical uses, they are also just plain pretty to look at. Instantly add pizzazz to an entryway table or nightstand. Fancy up the coffee table or decorate your dining area. The possibilities are endless!

I never knew how badly I wanted to make a purple doily until I saw this one! Arcanoweave (such a creative name!) is the 2nd part of a magnificent doily design worked in 3 parts. The thing that really stands out about this one for me is the cable work in the first few rows of the lighter purple color. Wow, just wow!

You can try a lot of different doily techniques in this sampler-style mandala. I love all the shapes in this one – ovals for the flower petals, squares, and diamonds too! The repeating pattern of colors – pink, green, yellow, and blue – really helps to pull the design together.

Who knew that doilies could be square? I love the X in the middle of the square and the contrasting white color on the last round. The best part about this splendid square lace doily design is that you can easily make it as big or as small as you’d like!

I can’t get enough of this stunning seashell doily! It’s made with a technique called fractal crochet (sometimes called math-based crochet) which sounds super intimidating but it’s really just double crochet and chain stitches. I think this design would also look splendid in green because it reminds me of a palm frond.

A pretty wheel of tulips might be wishful thinking this time of year but, hey, maybe it will help spring get here sooner! This classic white doily with tulips would make an excellent addition to your collection and it looks great in bright pink too.

Maybe I’m just hungry but the middle of this attractive doily looks like a pizza to me. Or maybe a pie. Either way, I really like how different and unique the Susie Doily is. The last few rows are particularly striking, with all those spokes.

With size 30 thread and a #12 hook, this showstopping piece measures 11 ½ inches across. The pink pineapple doily is also lovely in white and other colors. One of the projects on Ravelry uses gold and red thread and it’s really quite something!
